In America The early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely be in the child prodigy category. For a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family these characteristics were a normal. Maureen was welcomed into this cherished refuge within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and owned shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer club. Maureen FitzSimons was the child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and was a gruelling athlete in games when she was young. She combined this interest with an equally natural aptitude of performing. She won almost every Feis Award for Theater and Drama which her nation had to offer. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 She then was able to fulfill her goals of opera and classical singing and theater.
